By 2018, expand and strengthen external communications with parents and other community members, as evidenced by increased quantity and methods of communication.
Activities and Strategies:
Establish a public relations campaign to increase ticket sales for school VHSL activities.
Broaden outreach efforts to attract college recruiters to scout W&L high school athletes, thus increasing college admissions and scholarships.
Seek and create opportunities to share information, partner and collaborate with community faith-based organizations.
Create at least three business and/or community partnerships focused on improving student achievement at each school.
Expand Sponsors for Success and other community support programs to all schools.
Hold Parent Teacher Organizational meetings.
Support community tutoring programs in the county.
Explore the feasibility of establishing the WATCH DOG program at all schools.
Establish a volunteer program committee consisting of school board members, school division personnel, and community members, to develop a plan to recruit, train, assign, monitor and recognize volunteers.
Hold a volunteer recruitment fair.
Develop and offer a series of parent workshops (parent academies) to address a variety of topics identified through parent surveys and staff input, relating to supporting student success.
Cultivate a strong well-organized and active alumni association focused on addressing the needs of the school division through positive public relations, fund raising and volunteer service.
