character education - word of the month
Character education holds that widely shared, core ethical values such as caring, honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect for self and others form the basis of good character.
Westmoreland County Public Schools are committed to character development. Each month these character traits are sent to each school for the discussion and use of the character word. A school committed to character development stands for these values, defines them in terms of behavior, models these values, and uses them as the basis of human relations in the school. School lessons ask the questions “would you want to be treated this way?’, or “would you want all persons to act this way in a similar situation?”
Additionally, a program called “Project Wisdom” is part of the character training with value messages broadcast daily at each school. These broadcasts help students understand that any true success is rooted in respectful, responsible, and caring behaviors at school, home, and community.
