What is Career and Technical Education (CTE)?
Career and Technical Education is an important educational tool at Westmoreland County Public Schools. The Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Act – reauthorized in 2006-provides federal funds to increase focus on the academic achievement of career and technical education students, strengthen connections between secondary and postsecondary education and improve state and local accountability.
Students prepare and follow a career pathway throughout middle school and high school. The pathway guides can be adapted to educational programs that enhance the choices of a student. Westmoreland County Public Schools offer programs in Audio/Video Technology & Communications; Business Management & Administration; Family & Community Services, and Early Childhood Development & Services.
Students also attend Northern Neck Technical Center for focused career training in nursing, automotive, computer science, cosmetology, building arts, and culinary arts. Many students can earn state licenses in these programs.
