How Do I Register My Child for Pre-K?

Picture
Registration
Pre-kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 school year will open in Spring 2013.  Registration dates will be announced in local newspapers, on local radio stations and through distribution of brochures.  They will also be posted on this site.

Eligibility
To be eligible for pre-kindergarten in 2013-14, the child must be four years old on or before September 30, 2013.  The child must also be a resident of Westmoreland County.  Screening results are also used to determine eligibility.

Screening
All students registering for pre-kindergarten must participate in an early childhood screening.  Screening is done by appointment only.  Parents will be asked to call for an appointment when registration dates are posted.

What to Bring
  • Original Birth Certificate  (International families may substitute a permanent residency card, a VISA/I-94 or a passport);
  • Record of Immunizations;
  • Social Security Card;
  • Proof of Residency in Westmoreland County (This can be a deed, mortgage contract, rental agreement, notarized letter confirming shared housing, or a bill with the home address – such as an electric bill, water bill – or a recent pay stub.)

Foundation Blocks
Westmoreland County uses the Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning:  Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year Olds to guide the curriculum and instruction in our pre-kindergarten classrooms.  This document describes specific indicators for pre-kindergarten children in the content areas of reading and mathematics.
